A deposit is required to confirm your research request and add it to our visit queue. Your scans and research log will be delivered after the balance is paid following your visit.
What's due today
Booking deposit
This covers your first hour of research ($55) and the mandatory report fee ($10). Any additional hours worked are invoiced separately upon delivery.
Balance due on delivery
Any research time beyond your first hour is billed at $55/hr, rounded up to the nearest full hour, and invoiced upon delivery. You will never be charged additional time without your approval.
Deposits are non-refundable once your request is confirmed. Many manuscripts must be formally requested from library storage in advance — most institutions require a minimum of 7 business days' notice. Once confirmed, we begin that advance coordination immediately.
Payment questions
Why is the deposit non-refundable?
As soon as your request is confirmed we begin advance coordination with the library — including submitting formal pull requests for materials requiring 7 business days' notice. That work cannot be reversed.
What if research takes less than an hour?
Time is billed in full-hour increments, always rounded up. If research takes 20 minutes, you are still billed for one full hour. Your deposit already covers this minimum.
How is the balance invoice delivered?
We send a Stripe invoice to your email address on file at the same time as your scans and research log, payable by card.
What if the record isn't found?
You still owe for time worked and the $10 report fee. Negative evidence — documenting that a record was searched and not found — is a legitimate research outcome and part of the service.
